DETROIT, MI – 39-year-old Chiradeep Gupta, a physical therapist who co-owned an Oak Park health care business, was sentenced to 10 years prison Friday for Medicare fraud.
According to the FBI, Gupta was involved in numerous Medicare fraud convictions. He was convicted in October 2012 for conspiracy to commit health care fraud and money laundering.
The court ordered him, along with several co-defendants, to pay $10 million in restitution.
Medicare Fraud Strike Force investigated the case which operates in nine U.S. cities. They found out that All American Home Care Inc. was involved in a scheme that led to 20 criminal convictions. All American Home Care Inc. is co-owned by Gupta along with other partners. The convictions were related to beneficiaries signing blank documents for physical therapy treatment that was either never provided or was unnecessary medically.
Medicare Fraud Strike Force found out that Gupta created fake patient files and laundered money through multiple shell companies.
